Kelp Baskets
The first time I saw these beautifully crafted kelp baskets I was participating in an artisan Christmas show in 2002. The baskets were laid out on a table and scallop shell lights were strung and glowing around and above. I almost felt as if I was under the sea.. there was a magic about it... that night I went home and went through my coveted shell collection... much of which I gathered from the sea floor and brought some back to the woman who used them to embellish her baskets. Kazuyo gifted me a basket in return. Seven years later I still have that basket looking as good as the day i received it.. it sits on my fireplace mantel. And she also makes them now for Sea n Things... and for you... and I still bring her shells to put on our baskets.
Each piece is very unique and individual. They are coated with a protective varnish and furniture polish. Just keep them nice and dry. Instructions are on the tag. A very unique and beautiful gift from the oceans and beaches of Vancouver Island.
